ow did the church in Nigeria so easily and seriously miss the point in this chance spiritual opportunity “divinely” offered to her to take her seat in her rightful spiritual place over the soul of the nation?
Are we so spiritually naive and gullible that we are unaware that there is a spiritual angle to this pandemic globally and in Nigeria too; and that God allowed it so that the church will be restored to her enviable spiritual place in the affairs of the nation because of the serial and calculated attacks aimed at her and her growth leading up to A TIME AS THIS?
Did we not see the naked fear that gripped the world from the havoc wrecked by the virus and the panic and hopelessness it brought following its crippling effect on the lives of people, the economies of the nations of the world and the challenge it now poses for global health institutions?
Have we not seen the world sincerely looking for the true God and are desirous of serving and worshipping the God of the Christian faith; but where is the church to lead the wandering sheep of the Lord to the pasture of their patiently waiting Shepherd?
Are we not aware that it is our spiritual duty as the saved, redeemed and beloved saints of the Lord to lead the decaying and rebellious world back to God for salvation and redemption through divine healing from the resounding results that will be gotten and seen from the “effectual fervent prayer(s) of the righteous?”
What better time is the harvest ready, ripe and more prepared for the church to move in and to harvest by saving souls and at the same time bringing in more converts into the Christian fold than this season where fear had gripped the hearts of the politically strong and mighty to the point that they openly called on God for deliverance as we saw all around the world wherein people knelt on the streets and were being led through the process of confession and profession unto salvation as the world had no one else or nowhere else to turn to for redemption, hope and assurance?
How can the church now convince anyone (especially the stubborn unbelievers) that the Christian faith has a God who never fails and who heals us when we could not display our faith in Him wholesomely in the face of the threat posed by the pandemic for all to see?
Are we even aware that the silence of the church while the pandemic ravage the world and threaten global safety and health has not only called the Power and the Majesty of our God to question; but it also ridicules us in the place of our faith and confession? Because if there is a God of the Christian faith on whom “the stripes of our healing” is on and He is the Mighty healer of all sicknesses, infirmities and diseases (as we all know, believe and declare); then at what time did the church intend to heal the world of this novel virus with His name or in His name? It is a shame that the church chose to be silent at this time and allowed the spirit of fear and death to have a filled day in the nation and globally too at such A TIME AS THIS.
The silence, indifference, timid cooperation and spiritual cowardice of the church (through her leaders) have now left the church at the “whims and caprices” (and not even at the mercy) of the nation’s political demagogues, jobbers, opportunists and religious bigots to exploit, to violate and to manhandle for their personal joys and gains. By this act, the church in Nigeria made it so easy for the proponents of the satanic grand design or plan to stamp out Christianity in the country to gain advantage and gather momentum because it opens the door very wide for the voice of the church to be drowned in the confusion and noise of the panic of the pandemic prior to its being permanently silenced (if not for the abiding grace of God).
For those of us within the faith who continue (to live with the delusion or illusion) and say that such mandate or plan cannot happen fail to appreciate the fact that the total takeover of all the Christian relics, artifacts and churches in modern Turkey (which was where Apostle Paul tirelessly worked) was systematically executed and just like us too, the people of faith of that time and era watched it unfold while they slept with the same mentality or illusion of “it is not possible because our God will not allow it” as though when the Turkey event happened, God was not there or God was not watching. If we say that the “gates of hell shall not prevail” against the church of God, are we not aware too that the people of God have the responsibility of keeping the church from being systematically attacked and the spiritual values it stands for to be eroded?
Today, the enemies of the Gospel of Salvation are systematically taking us away from our God by placing us in the position of direct contention with the instructions and Ordinances of our God (like they did to Daniel). In the face of this pandemic, the guidelines rolled out so far are strategically weakening the church by removing us from the place of worshipping in our churches without observing the core Doctrines of the faith (and with time, they will be eroded).
According to this proclaimed guidelines as issued, we are not allowed or permitted to do certain things that are very common to us anymore in our churches and fellowships as a way (according to them) of checking the spread of the coronavirus. Now, we cannot sing out loud anymore (as our mouths are now covered with nose mask). This “misfortune” has come to the household of faith and the church leaders are doing everything within their ability and or capability to comply because we seem to have forgotten in a hurry that it was the high shout of praises and Halleluyah that pulled down the fortified walls of Jericho as the beloved people of God marched onto the promised land; whereas in our case, we have spiritually given up our own spiritual space. We cannot clap our hands loud again in high praises to God for His blessings and goodness to us (so that hidden droplets in our finger nails will not fly around). We cannot share Christian brotherly love and affection again (as we have been barred from touching, hugging, shaking hands and warmly embracing each other).
Another point worthy of mention is the silent manner in which the global idea of the “one religion” agenda is being cleverly pushed in by those behind it and their litany of followers. Today, the coronavirus seem to have provided the brilliant cover for all moves to be embarked upon in the name of global and national health and safety. Part of the guideline requires the ‘washing of hands” and the use of “sanitizer” (that is laced in alcohol). As beautiful and harmless as it appears, are we aware that the performance of “ablution” (which is totally strange to the faith) has carefully been inserted into the Christian way of life and worship (through the compulsory washing of hands)? What about the use of alcoholic item (in the sanitizer) before stepping in to lift up that same hand to praise the Lord?
Even if our spiritual leaders (and fathers) have chosen to be quiet or to keep silent (for reasons best known to them) as conquered people, I make bold to tell the world that it is a settled doctrine of faith and believe in Christianity that irrespective of how severe the sickness is or how contagious the disease can be, it cannot affect any person of faith to the point of death; and it cannot come into or operate in the hallowed chamber of the Presence of our God in the church when the people of God gather; therefore, coronavirus like any other ailment of its type and category can NEVER affect nor spread in any church were God is called, served and worshipped. This is the extent to which our God is Great, Awesome and Majestic. And these qualities of the God of the Christian faith has never been said to have been found or seen in other gods (and we owe no one any apologies for that).
Without the need to speak about the items of the guideline one after the other, it is still in order for me to mention certain salient points from it. In the face of the “self-defeatist” attitude of our church leaders, the government does not need to rub the insult in more than it has gained its advantage; they should at least be charitable in their victory.
It is an outright insult to demand that “offering bowls in churches should be kept at the entrance into the church for each service” session (are we not aware that the offering bowls in the church are part of the dedicated “holy or sacred things of the temple”?) whereas in the open markets, meat sellers, vegetable sellers, pepper sellers and the likes of other food ingredient dealers are not ordered to receive their money for the sale of their commodities from a distance or by proxy as you have to pay first before even being served; so it simply asked the question; between the offerings collected in churches and the monies paid to market sellers and the change that such sellers give in return to buyers, which set of money is messier, dirtier and stinks? Which one carries the possibility of transmitting a virus? Our political and public leaders should at least have a clear sense of decency, maintain a decent level of the fear of God and should reverence the things to which the name of God is called or attached to even if they will not respect the persons of the Men of God (some of whom have become their friends and are in their private pockets).
Today, leaders of the church are either rationalizing their silence or they are justifying their inactions by quoting (and possibly teaching and preaching) from the portions of the bible that instructs believers to be law abiding and respectful to those in the position of (political or public) authority; but even at that, it leaves me gasping for breath because I, as a member of a church which prides itself on the Christian practice of prophetically receiving and abiding within the power of an annual motto for which this year’s motto is FEAR NOT; FOR THE LORD WILL DO GREAT THINGS FOR US; I am wondering that if all we can do in the faith is only to obey lawful orders because the bible has instructed us to do so; are we not also aware that Divine healing and Divine health based on spiritual declarations or spiritual proclamations are also integral parts of the GREAT THINGS that God has in store for the church and had gone ahead to assure us that the church in Nigeria will receive and enjoy?
But most importantly, we need to equally remember that “when men (the church) slept,” the enemy (devil) sneaked in (just as it has happened now) and planted tares in the midst of our wheat (joyous and happy congregation). And I sincerely fear for what will happen to the church in Nigeria at the post pandemic era.
